People who need to lose weight are constantly seeking diets that work. It's not really difficult to find diets that work, but finding a diet a person can stick to is the trick. The diet industry is very large.

With books, diet food programs, trainers and nutritionists, spas, and all the other parts of the health and diet industry a lot of loot, over 46.8 billion dollars plus, is pulled in not from people becoming healthy or losing weight, but rather from people trying to become healthy or lose weight. Because the money comes from repeat business, the focus is naturally on methods and products that work for a short period but result in return business. So you want a diet that delivers? Here's one. Combine limiting caloric intake to 1000 calories a day with at least 30 minutes of aerobic fitness exercise at least 5 days a week. It's a given you'll shed pounds. But there are two difficulties. The first is that cravings will foil the diet.

1000 calories and all those fat burning exercises will eventually lead to massive hunger and binge eating. One piece of cake, or just one bag of chips, or one extra hot dog will soon steer you to dropping off the diet. #2 the diet eventually finishes. You eventually go back to eating the same old way. Next beach season, or next time to try on that dress or tuxedo, or next vacation, or simply the next time you look into a mirror on the way out of the shower it will be once again be diet time.

The best diet is a permanent diet. More and more people now understand that to lose weight it's best to make a whole lifestyle change, including healthier eating habits and more physical activity. Connie Guttersen created the Sonoma Diet which, as a base, focuses on 10 “power foods.” The power foods are almonds, bell peppers, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, olive oil, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes and whole grains, eaten in conjunction with the cuisine of the Sonoma country, which includes Asian, Latin American and Mediterranean influences.

The diet is full of real food, and real portions, combined into enjoyable dishes to help motivate someone to stay with it . Want a diet that works? Move your mind from a short term diet to permanent eating habits that go along with an overall healthy and active lifestyle. That's the way to not only lose the weight, but to avoid gaining it in the first place.

There is a brand new and exciting diet sweeping across America - well, it is actually now all over the world!

Of course I am talking about "the raw food diet". People are no longer asking does the raw food diet work, but simply asking how exactly they can use it too, and what the "rules" are!

The main principle of the diet is pretty simple: you should focus on eating UNCOOKED and  nutritious foods. The food we eat always loses its nutritional value when we cook it. The process of heating, cooking, and boiling our food in itself loses a lot of nutritional value from the food. So if you eat everything raw you will get all the nturients and this is much better for you obviously.

The main staples of the diet are fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. As for drinking you can use any natural fruit juice, unpasteurized milk, tea, and obviously pure water. And any alcohol should be avoided.

The diet will work for you, but only if you do itt as a change in lifestyle and keep it for the long term. If you just try it for a couple of weeks and then go back to your old habits then you will put the weight back on.

Its criticisms include such that while the raw food diet may be rich in some nutrients, it has a complete lack of others. For example, if you take it literally and exclude all meats, egg, and fish from your diet then you will be seriously short of calcium, protein, and iron.

So does the raw food diet work? It is maybe not the best diet to use for a long time period on it's own, but if you combine it with healthy meats like turkey and chicken, then you willlose weight while also improving your general health and energy.

Alternatively if you plan to stay vegetarian then you should eat extra vitamins to make up for the ones you will miss from your diet.

Weight loss surgery is very much a last resort for many patients and something to be put off as long a possible while they explore all of their choices. Indeed, in the majority of cases patients are helped in this by their doctor who, following tradition, will insist on a program of exercise and diet before referring a patient to a bariatric surgeon. But is this approach sensible?

Aside from the simple fact that most people agree that exercise and diet programs do not work and are a total waste of time for the vast majority of patients, there is excellent evidence to suggest that putting off surgery is putting patients at risk.

In a recent study the records of more than 2,000 people who had obesity surgery between 1995 and 2004 in the same medical center were examined. The researchers wished to see if there were any factors which could have been used to predict the risks facing this group of patients before they underwent surgery and they found 5 things that they believed increased a patient's risk of surgery.

The first of the five factors was gender with men being at greater risk than women. The second was a BMI (body mass index) in excess of 50. The third factor was age with people over the age of 45 being at higher risk. The fourth was the presence of high blood pressure (hypertension), frequently related to cardiovascular disease. The last factor was previous evidence of a blood clot in the lungs (pulmonary embolus) or a propensity for this condition.

The researchers then awarded a point for the presence of each of these factors and split the overall study group into those at low, medium and high risk depending on their scores. The then examined the death rate for each of these three groups and found that the death reate in the low risk group was 0.31%, in the medium risk group it was 1.9% and in the high risk group it was 7.56%.

Now there is nothing you can do about your gender but, when it comes to the other factors, the effect as far as the risks of gastric bypass surgery are concerned are obvious. Ageing, continuing to gain weight and developing health problems will all increase the risks posed by surgery. So, if you are morbidly obese, then perhaps you ought to consider early surgery and balance the risks involved in waiting against the possibility of finding a better alternative.

There are all sorts of body weight variations one goes through in a life time but as long as they are not major and do not persist, there is no point to worry. The trouble becomes visible once with the extra 10 pounds that you may have put on representing the flab and the increased size of thighs or buttocks that do not allow jeans to button up or even be completely pulled up. That is when you wish you could lose 10 pounds a week and after one or two weeks to look as you did several years ago.

There is one secret though for you to lose 10 pounds a week. There are lots of suggestions as for what type of diet to turn to when you attempt to lose 10 pounds a week. One such dietary plan is Dr. Steveson’s who as a diet expert and apparently relies on dissociated foods taking into account the seven days of the week. Fruits other than bananas, unsweetened tea, soup and water are recommended for the first day. The second day keeps the soup and the liquids, crosses out the fruit, peas and corn while replacing these with fresh and raw vegetables. Dinner should consist in baked potato mixed with butter.

Should you still be determined to lose 10 pounds a week with this top 10 diet plan, you can follow the rest of the diet recommendations while supporting them with lots of physical activity. The third day could really be a challenge in terms of determination and commitment. Try to remain on position and not to give in after only two days. That is probably why the third day should be a mixture of the previous two allowing you to diversify your food more but still you are to exclude potatoes and butter and anything else that was excluded on the previous days. The fourth day finally grants you bananas, eat around eight bananas and as much skimmed milk as you like.

It is definitely a challenge to lose 10 pounds a week, but with such a diet, it is more than doable. Dr. Stevenson’s dietary plan will surely help. Proceed with the fifth day. This time you should turn to beef or chicken either broiled or baked and remove the skin from the meat in case you choose the latter. Also add 6 tomatoes on your list and drink lots of water while continuing with the soup. The next day you may go for vegetables and beef or fish and soup, but avoid potatoes. On the seventh day go for brown rice, fruit juices, soup and vegetables.
